9/11: The Saudi Connection - BBC World Service Documentaries

Twenty-five years after the 9/11 attacks killed almost 3,000 people, tens of thousands of newly released documents are shedding fresh light on the claim that individuals working for the Saudi government might have been involved. Click here to subscribe to our channel 👉🏽 https://bbc.in/3VyyriM Panorama and #BBCEye investigate the role of Omar al-Bayoumi, who helped the first two hijackers after they arrived in America. A US judge has found that he could have been an agent working on the instructions of the Saudi government – something he, and Saudi Arabia, have always denied. After being arrested by British police and held for seven days, al-Bayoumi was released and allowed to return to Saudi Arabia. But Jane McMullen, reporting for Panorama, explores whether UK officers and FBI agents had access to all the available evidence against him. She uncovers never-before-broadcast video footage, hears from people close to the case who have never spoken before and asks why significant evidence remained hidden for so long. 00:00 The BBC’s core 9/11 question 05:06 Tom Strada’s call: “The building’s been hit by an airplane” 06:59 What happened on 9/11? 09:01 Who masterminded the 9/11 attacks? 10:57 Two Saudi men linked to the 9/11 attacks 12:16 Who helped the Saudi hijackers in the US? 12:35 Omar al-Bayoumi’s home videos 13:29 Hijackers’ landlady speaks to the BBC 14:04 What was Omar al-Bayoumi like? 14:39 The hijackers’ link to Omar al-Bayoumi 16:46 Nawaf al-Hazmi and Khalid al-Mihdhar 17:39 A Birmingham arrest and the 9/11 connection 18:29 The Metropolitan Police interview al-Bayoumi 21:58 The FBI investigates Omar al-Bayoumi 24:54 Al-Bayoumi hosts two 9/11 hijackers 27:43 Terry Strada tells her children their father has been killed 28:52 Al-Bayoumi’s links to extremists 31:19 Saudi Arabia at the time of 9/11 33:49 Al-Bayoumi and the Saudi government 37:57 Was there enough evidence to extradite al-Bayoumi? 40:04 George W.
