In this lesson we’ll unlock object pronouns—the small tags you attach to verbs to say things like “He gave her the book” or “They didn’t see him.” By the end, you’ll use them confidently in positive and negative sentences. Notebook ready—bismillah! Object pronouns (attach to the verb) me → -ni you (sg.) → -k him / it (masc.) → -h (often heard -u) her / it (fem.) → -ha us → -na you (pl.) → -kom them → -hom How it works (mini breakdown) 3ta = he gave → 3ta + ha → 3taha = he gave her shaf = he saw → shaf + ni → shaftni = she/he saw me Examples 3taha l-ktab → He gave her the book Shaftni f s-sinima → She saw me at the cinema Q: Wash ktbti r-risala l-Hasan? → Did you write the letter to Hassan? A: Iyyeh, ktbtha l-Hasan → Yes, I wrote it to Hassan (fem. “risala”) 3lash khllitina mʿah? → Why did you leave us with him? Negation (ma…sh wraps the verb+pronoun) Positive: shaftni (you saw me) Negative: ma-shaftni-sh (you didn’t see me) La, ma-shfthom-sh → No, I didn’t see them Tips & notes You’ll often hear -h as -u in fast speech (e.g., shaf-o). For giving/telling someone + something, keep the pronoun on the verb and add l- before the person/noun: 3taha l-ktab, qolli l-haqq. Imperatives also take object pronouns: 3tini (give me), sma3ni (listen to me). About this channel Learn Darija with stories, mini-podcasts, vlogs, and culture videos.
