About this track

If current trends continue, Ghana may not have seen the worst of its flooding crisis yet. With weeks of heavy rainfall still ahead during the peak rainy season, many drainage systems are already overwhelmed, waterways remain obstructed, and flood-prone communities continue to expand. Areas that rarely experienced flooding in the past are now finding themselves underwater after relatively short periods of rain. The warning signs are everywhere: blocked drains filled with plastic waste, buildings constructed on natural water channels, shrinking wetlands, and rapid urbanization without proper planning. Unless urgent measures are taken to restore waterways, improve drainage infrastructure, and enforce building regulations, future floods could become more frequent, more destructive, and more deadly. The question is no longer whether flooding will happen, but whether Ghana is prepared for what may be coming next.
