U.S. Underwater Vehicle FALLS INTO IRANIAN HANDS

Iran’s IRGC Navy says it captured a U.S. autonomous underwater vehicle near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian state media identified the vessel as Anduril’s Dive-LD, a large-displacement autonomous underwater vehicle delivered to U.S. forces in 2025. Tehran presented the capture as a major intelligence prize. The Pentagon’s account is different: CENTCOM says the U.S. underwater vehicle malfunctioned more than a day earlier while surveying regional waters and was an older model carrying no classified sonar or radar. U.S. officials say operations in the region continue. If confirmed, the incident would mark a highly unusual loss of a U.S. autonomous undersea system in one of the world’s most strategically important waterways.
