Why Forgiveness Is About Your Nervous System
About this track
Forgiveness isn't about excusing what happened or pretending it didn't hurt. From a nervous system perspective, forgiveness is about releasing the physiological burden of carrying unresolved threat. When harm is acknowledged, accountability is taken, and truth is honored, the brain no longer has to stay hypervigilant protecting the story. Rumination keeps the nervous system trapped in survival, but letting go reduces physiological threat, expands capacity, and creates space to move forward without being defined by the past. In this clip from Trauma Rewired, Jennifer Wallace explains why accountability is actually the gateway to forgiveness—and why post-traumatic growth isn't forgetting what happened, but learning to carry it differently.
